Publisher's Summary
An affectionate and bittersweet portrait, David Malouf's first novel recreates the sleazy, tropical half city that was Brisbane and captures a generation locked in combat with the elusive Australian dream.
Dante and Johnno are unlikely childhood friends, growing up in the bustle of steamy wartime Brisbane. Later, as teenagers, they learn about love and life amidst the city's pubs and public libraries, backyards and brothels, Moreton Bay figs and tennis parties. As adults, they make the great pilgrimage overseas and maintain an uneasy friendship as they seek to build their lives.
An affectionately outrageous portrait, Johnno brilliantly re-creates the war-conscious '40s, the pubs and brothels of the '50s, and the years away treading water overseas.

A book with questions
Johnno is a good book. easy to follow and enjoy and despite that lack of characters readers connect with the story and events within the novel that gives it a deeper meaning.
it ended well and brought the story full circle with the inclusion of the fitting epilogue
I would definitely suggest this book and author to my freinds and family
